Does the .380ACP Still Have Its Place?

Kel-Tec P3AT

The .380ACP has been an extremely practical and popular choice for concealed carry guns. Why? It’s simple: size! The .380 guns, sometimes called “mouse guns,” can very easily be hidden in pockets, purses, and when worn inside the waistband. The .380s have been used as a backup gun for law enforcement and deep carry for civilian use (especially in warm climates like Texas and Florida). The popular .380s are the Keltec P3AT, S&W Bodyguard, Ruger LCP, Glock 42, and Sig P238. These tiny … [Read more...]

Glock 19 – Is it still the ultimate “All Purpose” Handgun?

Glock 19

The Glock 19 has been viewed as the ultimate “all purpose” handgun. It is compact enough to be carried easily, yet handles like a full size gun, and has the capacity (15 round) of many other full size weapons. The Glock 19 is a beautiful hybrid-sized beast that does nearly everything extremely well. It is dead-nuts reliable and has aftermarket support out the wha-zoo! Despite being a “dime a dozen” gun, it has developed a cultish following since its inception. But does the Glock 19 … [Read more...]

Is the Glock 36 being replaced by the Springfield XDs .45?

Glock 36 versus Springfield XDs

The .45ACP has developed a Colt-like following over the years (pun intended). For those that didn’t want a manual safety on a 1911, the cost of a 1911, or the occasional reliability concerns of a smaller frame 1911, the answer was a Glock 36. There are other single stack .45s on the market such as the S&W CS45, Sig P220, Kahr CM/PM45, but none have gained the popularity of the Glock 36 to fill the niche of the officer-sized 1911 carry alternative. The Glock simplicity, trigger, aftermarket … [Read more...]

Tagua Slide Holster Review

I typically carry inside the waist band (IWB) and was looking for a less expensive outside the waist band (OWB) rig for range duty for my M&P 9c and M&P full size. I came across the Tagua Slide Holster which would accept both. Tagua is a larger manufacturer and stocks their holsters so they ship right away. Their price point is right, but you don’t get the same fit and finish as you would with a custom set up. When I got this holster it was stiff, and that is an understatement. I … [Read more...]

The Battle of the Slim 9mm Carry Guns

Walther PPS 9mm Pistol

What do people typically want in a carry gun? Short grip, short barrel, slim, and as high capacity as possible in a convenient to carry package. This niche is filled with slim single stack 9mm carry guns. The popular choices are the Smith and Wesson M&P Shield in 9mm, Walther PPS, Beretta Nano, Springfield XDs, Sig P938, and Kahr CM9/PM9. How do these guns compare and how should you approach them as a fit to your carry needs? Let’s start with the Shield. Smith and Wesson Shield The … [Read more...]
